Funny tutorial for recorder learning
Hi, friends! As far as I know, there are some recorder orchestras in US, so it maybe interesting for you... I've written a simple funny book for recorder learning. Even if you don't know notes well, you can use it. For a pity, now it's only in russian. Can somebody translate it into english or check my own translation? You can download the book from here. If you like the book, please help me to print it. If it wins in voting, it will be printed free. Vote for the book here. Just write "№26, kitchy_witchy" and post comment. Thank you!!! If you're interested in notes for recorder, welcome to my archive :) The cover of the book is under cut ( CoverCollapse ) (play that funky music) | Thursday, February 8th, 2007 | 2:48 pm [lilskydiver20]

So I haven't posted in here in a while, if ever. Since I've got a couple minutes to post, I figured I would tell you about our senior prank my class pulled. I'm a senior at Willoughby South High School in NE Ohio and I play tenors. My band director absolutely hates the tune "Hang on Sloopy", but my football coach loves it (He's a huge OSU fan) so we learn it to play at football games. Well, one of my friends is a huge fan of OSU also, and he plays the bass line ALL THE TIME so my band director threatened to cut the piece. We have an indoor concert, which is where we play everything except stand tunes for an audience. No marching though, we all sit, except for the drumline and pit, who stand behind the band. Traditionally, we cadence out of the gym att he end of the program. Our announcer says "And now, for the last time..." and the tap off starts. Well, the seniors decided it would be awesome that instead of playing the cadence, we marched out to Sloopy. Well, we pulled it off and our director was PISSED. It was totally worth it though, and the best thing is, it wasn't just the seniors playing it! The entire band caught on and everyone played it! It was awesome. We have it on DVD so it can live forever. (1musician | play that funky music) | Monday, October 30th, 2006 | 4:01 pm [nomoresadness]

Last Fridays Game
So my band started this my freshman year.. we actually had a game on halloween night 4 years ago.. so everyone who wanted to wear a costume had to donate two canned food items. The other three years well we didnt have a game on halloween obviously but we made it a tradition anyways. My Sophomore year the aftermath that made it all the way up to PA from Hurricane Ivan flooded one of our firestations, so everyone who wanted to wear a costume on the game closest to halloween payed a minimum of $10 to wear whatever they wanted. My Junior year we again payed $10, but this $10 hit closer to many of us, it was for a fellow student who is in my grade he needed a double lung transplant.. and the insurance company on pays for part of the meds he would need so the whole school did a ton of fundraising we contributed $2500. This year, knowing the game was even further off of halloween we knew it was a possibility that we wouldnt be allowed to do the costumes but again we found a charity in our own township, a teacher Beth Ann Dolan developed Spinal Myleitsis (sp?) she is now paralyzed, so again the band payed a minimum of $10.. and again we were able to donate $2500. hopefully there is something every year that we can either donate food or money towards, its a good way to support our community.. Can anyone tell me whats wrong with this picture?? .... if you guess that its really dark... you could be right.. there was one panel of lights that went out.. so they had to shut off all the lights.. which delayed the game.. Although that night we raised $2500.. it was the most miserable game of my four seasons. I never knew that it could be so cold and still raining.. plain miserable there are more pictures but I am being a lazy person and not fighting with this Current Mood: sick (1musician | play that funky music) | Monday, October 23rd, 2006 | 8:52 pm [n3gativ3utopia]

I don't think that this joke has been put up here in a while and so I think it's time that we bring it up. If you don't know jack about music theory, you probably won't get a lot of this. A C, an E-flat, and a G go into a bar. The bartender says ( ...Collapse ) (7musicians | play that funky music) | Monday, October 16th, 2006 | 11:21 pm [sundariharmony]

Chippewa Falls
Today was the 1 year anniversary of a tragic bus crash that killed the director of the Chippewa Falls high school band in Wisconsin, plus 4 other people. This past weekend they had the marching show that they hosted, and it was amazing. The band is so strong. This weekend they will be traveling back to UW-Whitewater for a competition - the same place they were coming back from when the accident took place. It's going to be a very rough time for these kids and everyone invovled. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. They have come through so much, and deserve the world ♥ (play that funky music) | 10:33 pm [jsu5198m] |

You know you're a band geek when...
-you disrupt class because your metronome went off -to turn off said metronome, you have to first pull it out of your pocket (not backpack) -you always carry a deck of cards with you -though you despise purses, you finally got one because girls' jeans do not have big enough pockets for a wallet, a metronome, and a deck of cards -when someone disrupts you while you're playing an etude, you don't notice that you forgot to turn off the metronome until the other person goes crazy -you get excited when your metronome can beat triplets or sixteenths as well as just the beat -you get even more excited when your metronome is also a tuner -even better, the tuner portion also plays pitches! -you begin to find the metronome as a perfect torture device for non music majors -you are seriously considering composing a song for a band of Dr. Beats (4musicians | play that funky music) | Sunday, September 3rd, 2006 | 11:26 am [estrelladesax]

Where (online or on the phone) do you by your sheet music?I'm supposed to get (immediately, somehow, over labor day weekend) The Clarinetist's Compendium -Bonade Campione on Clarinet -Campione Melodious and Progressive Studies Book I -Hite Six studies in english Folk Song -Vaughn-Williams 16 Grand Solos -Bonade(editor) And a Vandoren Optimum ligature, which I ordered. I'm playing on a Buffet R13 with a Fobes Debut mouthpiece and Vandoren 4 reeds. (Should have V12, crap.) I'm a college freshman and NOT a music major. I feel out of my depth and depressed. http://marching.yoll.net/With marching season starting up again, I figured I'd give this another go. There's also an LJ community, marching_mascots, which has photos of the recent plushies, including the UMASS one, which is quite wonderful, if I do say so myself. Check us out. We obviously rock, because we make marching band plushies. (play that funky music) | Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 | 2:08 pm [esprit_wolf]

Flute for sale! Hi everyone! If I'm not allowed to post sales information, the mods can feel free to delete this.
I'm selling my student flute, which was played in junior high and high school band. I'm selling it on ebay, and the opening bid is $94.99. The flute is in excellent condition, except for a few scratches. I had all of the pads replaced recently, so it's all in good shape. Here's a picture:

The flute comes in a black plastic case with a handle, and buckles to secure it closed. The flute is an open-holed (it comes with all the plastic plugs too) sterling silver Gemeinhardt, serial number 429977. If anyone can figure out the model number from that information, please let me know, because I don't have the original information for that.
Here's the link to my Ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&item=120013166358&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
If you have any questions, post a comment or email me at dogluver24@hotmail.com. Thanks a lot!
