Glyvursnes  Faroe Islands The ro-ro cargo ship caught fire at Hirtshals, Denmark. A crew member was killed and another was severely injured.[1]
Kulle Christoph SK30  Germany The 12-metre (39 ft), 19-ton fishing vessel sank in the Baltic Sea at dock at Heikendorf, Germany. She is expected to be lifted.[2]
Unnamed migrant boat  Tunisia A migrant boat capsized off the Kerkennah Islands with the loss of 27 of the 52 people on board.[3]

Guardian  United States The fishing vessel ran aground near Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The United States Coast Guard despatched a tug and she was refloated.[4]

Ship State Description
Panoria  Marshall Islands The bulk carrier caught fire in the South China Sea 23 nautical miles (43 km) off Cape Elubani, Taiwan. She was on a voyage from Nantong, China to Singapore. Four of her crew were injured, one seriously. A tug was requested to tow her in to Kaohsiung, Taiwan.[5]
Unnamed fishing boat  South Korea A fishing boat ran aground near Gageodo, South Korea after colliding with coastal rocks. Three people were killed, 19 were rescued.[6][7]

Kvalnes  Norway The fishing vessel ran aground near Hellbergsøya. She was refloated.[8]
Omaha Maru No.8  Japan The fishing vessel capsized 17 nautical miles (31 km) off Kitaibaraki with the loss of two of her twenty crew. Three people were reported missing.[9]
Sanwa Maru  Japan The tanker ran aground off Cape Esan.[10]

Bram Force  Brazil The service vessel caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean off Rio de Janeiro. Her crew were evacuated. She was subsequently towed in to Superporto do Açu.[11]

Dolphin 18  Vietnam The cargo ship sank approximately 274 nautical miles (507 km) southwest of Vũng Tàu, Vietnam. All 18 crew were rescued from lifeboats by Nicolai Maersk ( Hong Kong).[12]

Ship State Description
Kerstin  Netherlands The motor barge suffered a steering failure in the Main near Aschaffenburg, Germany and became wedged at the entrance of a lock whilst avoiding an allision with the passenger ship Amadeus Silver II ( Germany). Kerstin was refloated with assistance from the motor barges Käthe Krieger and Henneburg (both  Germany).[13]
Silver Sincere  Malaysia The oil products tanker took on water and sank off of Pedra Branca, Singapore. All eight crew were rescued from lifeboats by Intan Daya 368 ( Indonesia).[14]

Ameray 888  Thailand The 44.39-ton catamaran sank about 1.6 nautical miles (3.0 km) north of Koh Racha Yai, Thailand, south of Phuket. 38 people, including 33 Chinese tourists, were rescued.[15]

Ship State Description
MTS Terramare  United Kingdom The 24.5-metre (80 ft), 115-ton, roll-on/roll-off survey vessel suffered engine failure and went adrift. MTS Terramare was pushed by 0.91-to-1.52-metre (3 to 5 ft) waves until she washed up on the beach at high tide in St. Brides Bay off Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Her crew evacuated onto the beach.[16]

Ship State Description
Tanusha  United States The 58-foot (18 m) trawler capsized and sank in the Gulf of Alaska 23 miles (37 km) southeast of Kodiak, Alaska. Her crew was rescued by Victory.[17]
Unnamed A vessel carrying 86 persons that departed Mauritania on 2 January capsized off Western Sahara. 50 people were killed.[18][19]

Miss Sandy  United States The 56-foot (17 m) fishing vessel sprung a leak and sank approximately 7 nautical miles (13 km) off Gloucester, Massachusetts. All 18 crew were rescued by USCGC William Chadwick ( United States Coast Guard).[20][21]

Princess X95  United States The 95-foot (29 m) yacht burned, capsized and sank in the Miami River at dock at the Booby Trap, Miami, Florida.[22][23]

Unnamed submarine unknown An abandoned suspected narco-submarine was found by the fishing vessel Maria Cristina at the entrance to the Camarinas-Muxia estuary, Galicia, Spain. While being towed to the port of Camariñas it broke in two with the aft section sinking.[24]

LCT Cahaya Dana Reza  Indonesia The tank landing craft sprang a leak, capsized, and sank in shallow water with some of her hull above water near Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia. All nine crew were rescued by the tugboat Atlantik Star 11 ( Indonesia).[25]
Mattie and Maren II  United States The 55-foot (17 m) trawler was sunk due to hull damage in a collision with the scalloper Vanquish ( United States) in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Block Island, Rhode Island in foul weather.[26]

Wei Sen No. 8  Belize The tanker ran aground near the Matsu Islands. Seven crew were rescued by the Taiwan Coast Guard, one died during the rescue.[27]

Ship State Description
Calimero Sampa  Italy The 20-metre (66 ft) fishing vessel ran aground on a reef in the Adriatic Sea 250 metres (820 ft) off the beach just west of Cesenatico, Italy, and capsized over onto her starboard side partially submerged.[28]
Guang Rong  Cyprus Storm Herminia: The 103.8-metre (340 ft 7 in), 10,000 DWT cargo ship dragged anchor in a storm at Marina Di Carrara anchorage and crashed into a pier at Tuscan Sea Resort, Italy and then was driven ashore with a starboard list. The crew of 13 is safe.[29]

Ship State Description
Samgwangho and Manseonho  South Korea Two fishing vessels, the 32-ton Samgwangho and the 27-ton Manseonho, ran aground at the same place on rocks 500 metres (1,600 ft) off Rabbit Island in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City in stormy weather. The captain of Samgwangho and a crewman of Manseonho suffered heart attacks and later died.[30][31]

Putri Papua  Indonesia The 53-metre (174 ft) pinisi motor sail vessel sank in the Pacific Ocean 12 miles (19 km) off Sorong, Southwest Papua, Indonesia, after engine failure.[33]

Ship State Description
Fortune Pride  Canada The 18-metre (59 ft) fishing vessel sank approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) southeast of Sambro, Nova Scotia. Of the four crew aboard the vessel, three were rescued, with one of the three dying in hospital later. The fourth crewmember was found deceased in a life raft at sea.[34]

Koala  Antigua and Barbuda The tanker settled to the bottom at dock in the harbour following explosions in her engine room at Ust-Luga, Leningrad Oblast, Russia.[36]
Unknown high speed boat  Korea Coast Guard A Korea Coast Guard high speed boat capsized in high waves searching for the fishing vessel. All crew were rescued by other Coast Guard vessels.[37]
22 Seokyung  South Korea The 43-metre (141 ft), 139-ton fishing vessel capsized and sank in 80 metres (260 ft) of water about 17 kilometres (11 mi) east of Habaek Island, about 315 kilometres (196 mi) south of Seoul, South Korea. Of the 14 crew, four crew, including her captain, died, and five crew were reported missing.[38][39]

2066 Jae Sung Ho  South Korea The 14-metre (46 ft), 32-ton fishing vessel capsized approximately 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) southwest of Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju Island, South Korea. Five of the ten crew were rescued.[40][41]

Lambousa II Unknown The 23-metre (75 ft) vessel was sunk as an artificial reef in 28 metres (92 ft) of water off the coast of Oroklini in the Oroklini marine protected area (34°57′N 33°41′E / 34.950°N 33.683°E / 34.950; 33.683), Cyprus.[43][44]
MSC Baltic III  Liberia The container ship was driven aground at Wild Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, west of Lark Harbour after losing power by severe weather conditions with winds exceeding 120 kilometres per hour (75 mph) and waves reaching 6 metres (20 ft) high.[45]
Unknown  United Kingdom A narrow boat/barge sank in the Oxford Canal between bridges 4 and 5.[46]

Shayesteh  Iran The 50.3-metre (165 ft) cargo ship sprung a leak and sank in the Persian Gulf off Qatar. The crew were rescued by USS Devastator ( United States Navy) and USCGC Clarence Sutphin Jr. ( United States Coast Guard).[48][49]

Western Gambler  Canada The 58-foot (18 m) fishing vessel ran aground after springing a leak, listed and sank partially submerged at Napier Point, just south of Bella Bella, British Columbia, Canada. All four crew were rescued. The vessel was refloated on 26 February.[50]

Ashamba  Russia The research vessel capsized and sank at dock near Novorossiysk, Russia, due to icing during a winter storm. The wreck is expected to be raised in early 2025.[51]

Unknown  North Korea A cargo ship reportedly collided with a Chinese ship and sank off the coast of China in the Yellow Sea in late February. Reportedly 15 to 20 crew were killed while a few others were rescued by China.[52]

BT-92263-TS  Vietnam The fishing vessel capsized and sank due to the heavy seas and strong winds in the South China Sea near Bến Tre province, Vietnam. All four crew were rescued from the water.[53]

H&S Wisdom  Netherlands The 82-metre (269 ft), 1,842-ton cargo ship ran aground on mud flats off the coast of Brough in the Humber Estuary near Welton, England. Refloated on 15 March.[54][55]
Huvan  Maldives The ferry/launch capsized and sank in the Indian Ocean in the Maldives between ADh Dhigurah and Mahibadhoo. All 3 crew and 45 passengers were rescued from the water.[56]
PW26  United Kingdom The fishing vessel was wrecked on rocks and sank at The Rumps near Polzeath, Cornwall, United Kingdom. Both crewmembers were rescued by a Royal National Lifeboat Institution lifeboat.[57]
Unknown  Colombia A pleasure vessel sank after taking on water near Punta Barú. Thirty people were rescued by the Colombian Navy and 12 by a civilian vessel operating near the Rosario Islands.[58]

Siriwan Marine 5  Thailand The 16-metre (52 ft) passenger speedboat sank from a cracked hull caused by large swells in the Andaman Sea near Koh Poda Nok off Krabi province, Thailand. Twenty-eight passengers plus crew were rescued.[61]

The tanker Stena Immaculate was run into at anchor by the container ship Solong in the North Sea off Withernsea, East Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Both ships caught fire and were abandoned by their crews. A crew member of Solong was reported missing.[63]

Bangsata  Philippines The wooden passenger/cargo ship sank in rough seas off the Taganak Islands in Tawi-Tawi, the Philippines. 32 people were rescued.[66]
Pico Tresmares  Spain The 44-metre (144 ft) fishing vessel caught fire in the Pacific Ocean roughly 860 nautical miles (1,590 km; 990 mi) off La Serena, Chile. She capsized and sank after her 19 crew abandoned ship.[67]
Provincia del Azuay  Ecuador The 30-metre (98 ft), 503-ton tugboat sprung a leak and sank mostly submerged at her berth in Veracruz, Mexico. She is expected to be raised.[68]
Unknown Unknown A boat capsized off the southeastern coast of Cyprus while transporting an unknown number of migrants. The bodies of seven deceased migrant persons and two survivors were recovered by Cyprus' search and rescue teams.[69]

Unknown barge  Germany A barge sank in a gravel lake in Northeim, Germany.[70]
Unknown pleasure vessel  Colombia A pleasure vessel capsized and sank in adverse weather near Punta Gigantes, in the Ciénaga de los Vásquez, area of Punta Barú. Thirty-six German and two Austrian passengers, and two crew were rescued by the Colombian Navy and by civilian vessels.[71]

Fugro Mercator  Panama The research vessel ran aground in harsh weather in the Mediterranean Sea off Elba near the Enfola promontory near Portoferraio, Italy. Refloated on 29 March.[72][73]

Sadong 33  Philippines The tugboat was towing LCT Sea Asia ( Philippines) when the cargo ship Universe Kiza ( Panama) cut between the two vessels catching the towline causing the tug to capsize off Maasim, Sarangani, Mindanao. Her captain and one crewmember died.[74]

Ramonda  St. Vincent and Grenadines The 29.6-metre (97 ft) yacht caught fire at Porto novi, Montenegro. She was towed out to sea and left to sink.[75]
Sindbad  Egypt
Sindbad (right) in 2023.

2025 Red Sea tourist submarine disaster: The tourist submarine sank in the Red Sea off Hurghada, Egypt, with the loss of at least six lives. Thirty-nine passengers and five crew were rescued.[76][77][78]

Unknown barge  New Zealand A 30-metre (98 ft) barge capsized onto its side, losing its crane, in the Bay of Plenty at a marina in Tauranga, New Zealand. Salvage is expected.[80]

Jianghai Zhida 66  China The 129-metre (423 ft), 8,470-ton bulk carrier sank in a collision with Ningyuan Beilun ( China) off Yangxiaomao Island, Ningbo, China.[81]
Nicky  Netherlands The 85-metre (279 ft) tanker-barge collided with the freighter Volturno just outside of the Kreekrak Locks in Reimerswaal, Zeeland, Netherlands. Nicky's port hull was holed above the waterline. No casualties were reported.[82]
Volturno  Netherlands The 110-metre (360 ft) motor freighter collided with the tanker-barge Nicky just outside of the Kreekrak Locks in Reimerswaal, Zeeland, Netherlands. The bow of Volturno suffered bow damage. No casualties were reported.[82]

Lady Irene  United States The fishing vessel sank after a fire at the Wellfleet marina in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The fire also severely damaged the town’s deteriorating wooden L-pier. No casualties were reported.[83]

Ship State Description
Eagle  United States The 233-foot (71 m) ro-ro passenger ferry collided with a dolphin on her portside hull in the Nantucket Sound while departing the harbor for a voyage to Hyannis, Massachusetts, on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. No injuries or significant damage were reported and the ship was able to proceed on her normal service.[84]

Baltica  Germany The 48.8-metre (160 ft) German passenger ship sprung a leak and became flooded in the Baltic Sea near Kühlungsborn, Germany. The local fire brigade took out all of the water using dewatering pumps. No casualties were reported.[85]

Saeftinge  Netherlands The 82-metre (269 ft) barge caught fire on the Western Scheldt while berthed in Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands. The local fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire. No casualties were reported.[86]
TH 92686 TS  Vietnam The fishing vessel sank in a collision with Hosei Crown ( Panama) in fog in the Gulf of Bắc Bộ, Vietnam. Four crew were killed, eight were rescued.[87]

Captain Hornblower  United States The decommissioned 90-foot (27 m) tugboat was sunk as an artificial reef 12 miles (19 km) south of Panama City, Florida in the Gulf of Mexico in 97 feet (30 m) of water.[88]
CMA CGM Pelleas  Malta The 350-metre (1,148 ft) container ship ran aground and nearly struck a wall in the English Channel at Southampton, England. Tugboats were able to pull the ship free. No injuries were reported and the ship went back en route to Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands.[89]
Victoria L  Germany The 161-metre (528 ft) German container ship caught on fire and exploded in the North Sea while travelling from Hamburg, Germany, to Rotterdam west of Scheveningen, South Holland, Netherlands. None of the nineteen crew were injured.[90]

Scot Bay  United Kingdom The 91-metre (299 ft) cargo vessel transporting a cargo of animal feed sailing from IJmuiden in North Holland, Netherlands, ran aground while trying to enter the port of Teignmouth in River Teign, Teignmouth, Devon, England. In the evening, tugboats were able to pull the vessel free. No damage or casualties were reported.[91][92]

Eileen Rita

The 86-foot (26 m) scallop fishing vessel ran aground and sank near Green Island, Boston Harbor, Massachusetts, with the vessel reporting a maximum potential discharge of 4,000 US gallons (15,000 L; 3,300 imp gal) of diesel fuel and 50 US gallons (190 L; 42 imp gal) of lube oil. The three crew were rescued by the United States Coast Guard Northeast Sector without injury.[93]

HB Kongolo  Democratic Republic of the Congo The wooden boat en voyage from Matankumu to Bolomba carrying around 400 people caught fire and capsized on the Congo River near Mbandaka, Democratic Republic of the Congo, killing at least 148 people and leaving hundreds more missing.[96]

The ship after capsizing

The 144-metre (472 ft), 20,421-ton dredger capsized in the Mindoro Strait off Barangay Malawaano, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. Six crewman were killed, and five others were reported missing.[97][98]

Unknown Unknown An Al-Shabab-linked cargo ship was sunk by United States Africa Command and Somali Federal Government airstrike south of Somalia's territorial waters.[99]

Papu Mar  Paraguay The 32-metre (105 ft) tugboat sank in the Río de la Plata Punta in the Indio Channel near the Banco Chico reef off Argentina after springing a leak in a storm. At the time she was pushing the barge 240-4, her crew escaping to the barge. The barge was later cut loose.[100]

Glengyle  Hong Kong The 181-metre (594 ft), 37,679-ton bulk carrier partially sank by the stern in a collision with KMTC Surabaya ( Panama) in the Lòng Tàu River at An Thới Đông, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.[101]
