Etymology

[edit]

Per Dictionnaire du faisceau dialectal arabe andalou, “it is a phonetic variant of ر ب ث (r b ṯ) given that the beasts need to halt in order that they may dung”, but such variation is of course rather found in begedkefet-affected Aramaic: see رُبَيْثَاء (rubayṯāʔ), all terms of that root—rarities, altogether—derive from Aramaic.

Pronunciation
