Symptoms

The game fails to reach the main menu and sort of black-screens along the way. To clarify: the process is strangely long with only a loading splash screen and a shader compilation screen appearing along the way (both of which complete though), but the main menu is never reached I eventually get stalled by a black screen.

My log is also filled with a ton of vkd3d-proton messages, too.

Reproduction

1. Download the game on a 7200 RPM hard drive (game page doesn't state that an SSD is required)
2. Launch the game
3. Attempt to reach the main menu

NOTE: I was running Steam (and, by extension, the game) in gamescope, but I don't think this should have any impact. My specific steps were:

1. Run steam with (although, this miniaturizes my mouse cursor):

env ENABLE_GAMESCOPE_WSI=1 gamescope -e --nested-refresh=60 -w 3840 -h 2160 -f -R --rt --force-grab-cursor --hide-cursor-delay 3000 --fade-out-duration 200 --prefer-vk-device --adaptive-sync --hdr-itm-enable -- steam -bigpicture

2. Download the game (7200 RPM hard drive - my OS drive is an NVMe SSD, but my separate game drive isn't)
3. Launch the game
4. Attempt to reach the main menu

Additional Note: Attempting to run it on my NVMe SSD made little difference. The process is still somewhat lengthy, and the only discernible difference is that the shader compilation is significantly faster (though, I can't even truly claim this because I already did that on the previous drive). Either way: it doesn't fix the black screen issues.
