What does this PR change? What problem does it solve?

Fixes issues with example site raised in #1693 and #1699.
The example site currently cannot be built with the latest Hugo version, as described in the aforementioned issues. These changes should allow the example site to be built again.

Yes, in #1693 and #1699 as far as I could see. This section in the wiki should be updated as well.

The theme submodule of the example site had to be updated as well to get rid of the warnings regarding the deprecated site.Social option.
These warnings were mentioned in #1699 and should be fixed with this submodule update.
