An algal flora from the upper ordovician of the Lake Winnipeg region, Manitoba, Canada
Abstract
Eight new genera and one new species of fossil marine algae are described. Preservation of the specimens is as carbonaceous compressions; a rare type for algal remains. These taxa comprise an algal flora collected from dolomitic strata exposed along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, Canada; the age of which is considered ti be Late Ordovician. Comparisons with extant algal taxa are made and solely on the basis of morphologic similarity possible affinities with green, red and brown algae are suggested.
