Note: A Buddhist family altar or shrine found usually in Japanese homes, but also in temples. Generally a freestanding cabinet with two doors, in which are kept memorial items of dead ancestors and representations of divinities. Incense, candles, and flowers are offered at the butsudan in daily rituals.

| Dutch ..... Boeddhistische familiealtaren of relikwieënkasten, meestal in Japanse huizen, maar ook in tempels. Gewoonlijk een vrijstaande kast met twee deuren waarin men de aandenkens aan overleden voorouders en voorstellingen van godheden bewaart. Tijdens dagelijkse rituelen offert men bij de butsudan wierook, kaarsen en bloemen. |
