There are various artifacts for the early releases (< 2.1) spread out over different pages (or with no links at all) and in various directories on the releases dl server. There are a set of directories for binaries for 1.1 through 1.6 and one directory that contains source tarballs for various releases from 0.9.1 through 2.0. The releases page contains links to the legacy website download server which serves up the standard Apache directory listing (e.g. http://legacy.python.org/download/releases/src/), obviating the need for explicit file links, but that doesn't work on the new dl server and shouldn't. Suggest using the src README file as a starting point to expand the releases page to include explicit links to each of the files (they exist as well on the new dl server) and also merge info from the separate ancient releases page.
