#EngagedLibraries bring community organizations together. 🚒 It takes many organizations and occupations to maintain a vibrant community. Much like library workers are there to provide essential information and resources, first responders ensure our safety and security. Kansas City Public Library hosted a First Responders Breakfast, where more than 30 firefighters and police officers gathered for more than just a meal. They also came together to share and learn how organizations across the community contribute to its success. The special historical collections at Thomas Balch Library, a designated Underground Railroad research site and the only town-owned research library in the state, are not only of interest to the local Leesburg, Virginia community, but also to researchers around the world. Faced with growing collections, staff wanted to ensure people could find their unique materials. They turned to OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (#OCLCwms) to increase interest with easier access. “One of my goals over the last 20 years was to describe all of our holdings in one catalog. Manuscripts, artifacts, artwork, and other media in our collections needed to be discoverable," Library Director Alexandra Gressitt said. “With everything now having a catalog record, researchers will make better use of their time while here. Happy #EarthDay! 🌎 Our employees have been busy celebrating throughout April with activities that encourage learning, sustainability, and giving back. Here are some of the ways we've come together to get involved: 📚 OCLC’s Advocacy for a Greener Environment group has hosted a drive for gently used books, audiobooks, and DVDs, which will be donated to the Friends of the Bexley Public Library. 💻 To help keep electronics out of landfills, the advocacy group has also hosted an e-waste recycling challenge for employees to drop off old electronics for collection. 🪴 Today, we're hosting a maker fair, where OCLC employees are showcasing their skills and talents by selling their sustainable, hand- and locally-made goods and treats. 🌳 Also today, we planted a tree (pictured below) at our Dublin, Ohio headquarters, as well as distributed pollinator-friendly, locally-sourced garden seeds to our employees, to help support a healthier and more beautiful future for our communities. 📸 We'll share a video highlighting today's events, as well as results from our book drive and e-waste recycling challenge, next week. #LifeAtOCLC --- #OCLC #Sustainability #OCLCemployees #BestPlacesToWork #TechJobs #Jobs #Hiring #Technology #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove
