Updates to The MetaDefender Access Platform: DLP Detection and Other Features

New updates to the MetaDefender Access Platform arrive at a rapid pace. This past month, the already powerful platform received several important features that enhance the compliance reporting process. The most notable enhancement is an update to the Deep Compliance module that enables the detection of DLP (Data Loss Prevention) applications running on the endpoint.

Compliance for DLP Protection

Leveraging the OPSWAT OESIS capability for Data Loss Protection, we have added a new MetaDefender Access compliance category for DLP. MetaDefender Access, already offering the most comprehensive compliance checks available, now has the capability to consider a device non-compliant if it is not running specific DLP apps. To this end, MetaDefender Access Console is updated with a new category that enables or disables the DLP functionality. It also enables users to set up the policy to their preferences.

What is DLP?

Data Loss Prevention agents protect sensitive data such as PCI, PII, and PHI. They monitor and block potentially risky user behavior such as emailing, web posting, printing, screen capturing, uploading to the cloud, and more. DLP agents must be both installed and properly configured to ensure organizations receive effective protection.

DLP’s capability to automatically find PII, PCI and PHI based on predefined detection rules and contextual conditions syncs well with the regulatory requirements in regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA and CCPA (The California Consumer Privacy Act, which took effect in July 2020 and is viewed as one of the most far-reaching acts of privacy legislation ever).

The MetaDefender Access Deep Endpoint Compliance platform discovers the presence, configuration, and status of popular endpoint DLP agents, detecting 55 Windows DLP agents and 5 MACOS agents.

Additional Compliance Reporting Enhancements

This new release also features several enhancements to the compliance reporting process:

  • Trend information is included so that the admin can see if the situation is improving or not and how fast the team is fixing compliance issues. Additionally, visibility into the number of devices (compliant or non-compliant) out of the total number of devices has been added to provide a clearer overall picture.
  • A new email report with an attached list of all compliance violations is now provided. The violations are grouped by the policy which was violated.
